Who Does the Work

McHenry Garage Door Pros works out of 1391 Corporate Dr, McHenry, IL 60050. We're a local garage door company, not a national call center that dispatches whoever's closest. When you call (815) 247-0970, you're talking to the people who actually show up at your house.

We don't run on a slogan about decades of service or a wall of awards. What we can tell you is what we work on: torsion and extension springs, openers, tracks, rollers, cables, and panel replacement on residential doors. Most of the houses we see in this area were built between 1946 and 2009, with a lot of stock from the 1980s and 90s - which means a wide mix of hardware, from older side-mounted torsion setups to newer belt-drive openers. We've seen enough of that range to know what a quote actually needs to account for.

We're not the shop for commercial dock doors or custom architectural work. If that's what you need, we'll tell you upfront rather than take the job and figure it out as we go. That's not modesty, it's just what keeps a quote honest.

Where We Travel

  1. We're based in McHenry and travel to the towns around it

Bull Valley, Johnsburg, Ringwood, Prairie Grove, Wonder Lake, and Lakemoor, all about 4 miles out. Island Lake, Pistakee Highlands, Oakwood Hills, and Volo run 6 to 7 miles. Woodstock, Port Barrington, Spring Grove, Fox Lake, Long Lake, Cary, Richmond, and Wauconda sit in the 8-to-9-mile range.

  2. Further out we cover Round Lake, Fox Lake Hills, Fox River Grove, Lake Barrington, Round Lake Park, Lake in the Hills, Hainesville, Round Lake Beach, Hebron, Lake Villa, North Barrington, and Channel Lake, up to about 12 miles from our shop

  3. If your town isn't on that list, call and ask before you fill out a form

We'd rather tell you no in thirty seconds than waste your time. Distance affects scheduling more than price: a job in Wonder Lake and a job in Lake Villa cost about the same once we're there, but we can usually get to the closer towns the same day.

The Work We Take On

Winters here are genuinely cold, and that matters for what breaks. Cold-stiffened steel tracks, brittle weatherstripping, and springs that lose tension in low temperatures account for a good share of the calls we get once the season turns. If your door is slamming down fast or won't budge, a seized or broken torsion spring is the usual suspect, and that's not a DIY fix - the spring is under real tension and we don't recommend homeowners touch it.

We also do opener swaps, cable replacement, roller and hinge repair, and panel section replacement when a door's been hit by a vehicle or a storm. On the 1980s-and-90s-era doors that make up a lot of the local stock, we often find original hardware that's simply aged out - not broken from one event, just worn past the point of adjustment.

What we can't price over the phone: anything structural, like a bent track that's pulled away from the jamb, or a door that's been racked out of square. Those need an in-person look, because the fix might be a repair or might mean the door's not worth saving. We'll always tell you which, and we won't quote a number we can't stand behind once we see the actual door.

After You Call

  1. When you call (815) 247-0970, the first things we ask are simple

What the door is doing (won't open, won't close, makes noise, off track), what kind of opener you have if any, and roughly how old the door is. That gets us to a ballpark, not a final number - a spring job on a standard double door and a spring job on a door with worn-out end bearings are not the same price, and we won't guess at the difference sight unseen. We schedule a visit, take a look at the actual springs, tracks, cables, and panels, and give you a real number before any work starts.

  2. If the fix is something minor, we'll say so

If replacement makes more sense than another repair - which happens more often on doors from the older end of our area's housing stock - we'll explain why rather than sell you a patch that won't hold. There's no obligation tied to that visit. If you want to think it over, that's fine. The quote doesn't expire the moment we leave your driveway, though parts pricing can shift if you wait very long on specialty hardware.

Questions

Frequently asked

Straight answers about garage door repair in McHenry. Still unsure? Ask us directly.

Do you work outside McHenry itself?

Yes. We regularly cover Bull Valley, Johnsburg, Ringwood, Prairie Grove, Wonder Lake, and Lakemoor, all about four miles out, along with Island Lake, Pistakee Highlands, Oakwood Hills, and Volo a bit farther. If you're not sure we reach your street, call and ask - it's a quick answer.

Why does my door act up more in winter?

This area sits in a severe cold climate band, and torsion springs, nylon rollers, and opener circuit boards all react to hard freezes and big temperature swings. It's not a defect specific to your door - it's the predictable result of the weather this region gets every year.

My house is from the 1980s. Is that a problem for repairs?

Not usually, since most of the housing in this area dates from the same general era, 1946 through 2009 with a concentration in the 80s and 90s. We see that vintage constantly. The exception is when a specific panel or track style has gone fully obsolete - we'll flag that before we quote.

Do you give a price before starting work?

Yes, we quote the job before we touch the door. Repairs vary enough by cause - spring, cable, track, opener - that we don't publish a flat price list, but you'll know the number before any work starts.
